Bespoke Database Development
Why have a bespoke database? Isn't it cheaper to buy a package 'off the shelf'?
The answer to this is 'not necessarily' as there are several hidden costs in 'off the shelf' packages. These include large extra costs for a networked system, Staff Training Courses, Telephone Helpline costs, New Stationery to suit the package. In addition the package may be upgraded in the future and the current package left unsupported. This means that you either have to pay all over again for the software or be left to 'sink or swim'.
For less than 20 users, we usually base our systems on Microsoft Access although we have designed several applications using Microsoft Excel and Visual Basic.
For larger systems, we use Access or a Web based front end and SQL Server which can be configured for many users.
Backing up is vital for any application that stores data, and we have developed with 4G Technology,
We have also designed systems for use on the Internet using MySQL and PHP.
